Gambling on the iPhone

Online casinos first started in 1994 and were powered by the UK’s Microgaming software. Since then, the online gambling industry is estimated to be worth more than $30 billion worldwide.

Unfortunately, when President Bush passed the UIGEA 2006, it made gambling virtually illegal in the US as most payment processors were prohibited from funding US accounts with credit cards.

None the less, US casinos have still prospered in the current economic climate and hundreds of thousands of new accounts are opened every day. The size of the average casino depositing player can vary greatly from just $20 to $25,000.

Mobile gaming and gambling has become considerably more popular in recent years, and will no doubt continue to grow over the next few years up from 2011 – 2015.

A number of online casinos such as 32Red, Ladbrokes, William Hill, Rushmore and Jackpotcity have already released mobile casino downloads and apps that you can install on your mobile device. The increasing popularity of smart phones with technological capacity and screen interface to play popular casino games such as blackjack, roulette and video poker has opened up a market for mobile gaming in general.

With regards to real money gambling apps for the iPhone, real money gambling apps are limited to players because of Apple’s policy that no commercial apps that use Flash or Java software can be sold in the App store. This is because such apps disrupt the network connections and use up bandwidth or something. This is the reason why both Full Tilt Poker, Bodog and Bwin stopped offering their mobile poker app for iPhone users. It is still available for Android and all other WAP-enabled smart phones however.

The only two online casinos that have developed real money iPhone Apps are 32Red and All Slots. Both of these sites have gambling apps listed on the App store that contain around 11 real money games for you to play on your iphone. The iPhone games include blackjack, roulette, slots (single and multi-line jackpot games), video poker (Jacks or Better), tomb raiser slots, megah moolah and others. Although 11 real money games is extremely limited when you consider that most online casinos have 400+ games, you have to bear in mind that the iPhone app is very new and the sites will continually launch and bring out new games.
